New York Senate District 12, Senate Deputy Leader
Senator Gianaris currently serves as the Deputy Majority leader in the New York State Senate. He is the chief sponsor of the 21st Century Antitrust Act, which if passed, would be the most important change to antitrust law at any level of government in a generation. He is also the chief sponsor of S01196, a bill to ban nondisclosure agreements in corporate subsidy deals.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began, Senator Gianaris introduced the NY HERO Act which protected workers by mandating enforceable safety standards in the workplace.
From Senator Michael Gianaris:
"Our antitrust laws were written a century ago for a radically different economy and they are in desperate need of reform. Corporate power has reached unprecedented and dangerous levels, and we need powerful new laws to protect the public and our economy. While the federal government dithers, the road to real reform starts in state capitols and city halls and I'm proud to be leading the effort in New York to fight corporate monopolies."
