Washington, D.C. — Following broad, bipartisan momentum to crack down on Visa and Mastercard’s duopoly over the credit card system at a recent Senate Judiciary hearing, Fight Corporate Monopolies is launching a new digital ad this week highlighting that support and urging Congress to pass the Credit Card Competition Act before the lame duck session ends.
“Americans are fed up with Visa, Mastercard, and the Big Banks charging sky-high swipe fees that drive up prices for consumers and small businesses,” said Morgan Harper from Fight Corporate Monopolies. “The Credit Card Competition Act will break the power of these corporate monopolies and inject much-needed competition into credit card payment networks, benefitting Americans and small businessowners everywhere. It’s rare to find a piece of legislation that Democrats, Republicans, and Vice President-Elect JD Vance agree on, which is why the bank lobby is pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars to block it. This bill is a no-brainer solution to lower prices, which is why Congress must work to pass it this lame duck session.”
