Washington, D.C. — Fight Corporate Monopolies Executive Director Helen Brosnan issued the following statement on today’s U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing on the proposed $25 billion merger of Kroger and Albertsons:
“Just a few short weeks ago, voters rewarded candidates in the midterms who spoke plainly against corporate greed. Publicly opposing the proposed Kroger-Albertsons merger is a shining opportunity for Democrats to show they’re on the side of working people. The approval of this merger will jack up profit margins, while Americans struggling to afford groceries will suffer. If elected officials want to take their message from the campaign into real life promises for working people, they should loudly call for opposition to this merger."
