Fight Corporate Monopolies Unveils Albany Billboard Slamming Corporate Handouts in Hochul’s Budget

The national advocacy organization will join a press conference this afternoon urging Assembly Members to reject the Governor’s wasteful spending plan
Albany, New York — Today, a group of local and national organizations is kicking off efforts urging leaders in the New York State Assembly to freeze billions of dollars in corporate giveaways proposed in Gov. Kathy Hochul’s state budget.

Fight Corporate Monopolies, a national advocacy organization that is spearheading this week’s ad buy, is up with a new billboard this morning that calls out Hochul’s $10 billion in corporate subsidies and pushes for a budget that uses public dollars to address the pressing needs of New York communities.

The billboard, pictured below, is located off of Interstate 787 adjacent to the Arbor Hill neighborhood.

“Governor Hochul wants to double down on wasteful billion-dollar corporate handouts, putting the needs of extractive corporations over working families,” said Helen Brosnan, Executive Director of Fight Corporate Monopolies. “State legislators have a chance to put a stop to these giveaways and freeze all corporate subsidies in the budget. New York communities are desperate for crucial investments in care and transit, not a bigger bonus for corporate CEOs.”

The group is also set to hold a press conference this afternoon at the State Capitol to appeal directly to Assembly Members. In addition to Fight Corporate Monopolies, leaders from the following organizations are slated to speak at the event: New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness; American Economic Liberties Project; Reinvent Albany; Alliance for Quality Education; Horse Racing Wrongs; Strong Economy for All; and NYS Council of Churches.

The press conference, which kicks off at 12:30 PM ET on the fourth floor of the Capitol building, will highlight a number of wasteful corporate handouts in Hochul’s budget, including:

  • A $7 billion, 10-year, $66,000 yr-per-job taxpayer handout to Hollywood Film/TV producers
  • A $300 million a year taxpayer handout to Broadway theater producers
  • $455 million loan to the horseracing industry for Belmont track
